Oak Harbor High School senior Resego Mooki’s Wildcat golfing career came to a good news/bad news finish at the 3A girls state tournament at the Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane Tuesday, May 24.

The good news: She qualified for the state tournament for the second consecutive year.

The bad news: She missed the cut by one stroke, shooting a 96 to finish in 41st place. Mooki placed 33rd last spring.

The top 40 out of 80 golfers advanced to round two.

Two other Oak Harbor players also competed at state, and they, too, failed to make the first-day cut.

Mooki’s teammate, junior Jessica Monaghan, posted a 111, good for 77th.

Mooki produced the second-best score by the 18 District 1 golfers who qualified for the tournament.

Meadowdale’s Morgan Rood was the only Wesco golfer to make the cut. She placed 22nd with a 176 (91, 85).

Central Kitsap’s Brittany Kwon won the girls 3A title by five strokes with a 150 (77, 73).

Southridge of Kennewick won the team title with 86.5 points.

On the boys side, Oak Harbor freshman Haven Brown carded a 92 at Spokane’s the Creek at Quaichan Golf Course Tuesday, good for 75th out of 80.

Spencer Tibbits of Fort Vancouver (70, 69 – 139) defeated Mercer Island’s Zach Evens (73, 66 – 139) in a playoff to claim the individual title.

Roosevelt of Seattle easily won the team championship with 136.5 points.

Quinton Borseth of Stanwood earned the best finish by a Western Conference golfer, taking 17th with a 155 (75, 80).

Wesco’s Arlington placed 10th as a team with 23 points.
