Archbishop Murphy topped the Coupeville High School volleyball team 3-1 Wednesday in a battle of undefeated teams in Coupeville.
The Wildcats prevailed 23-25, 25-9, 25-21, 25-11, as each game offered a different flavor of action.
In the opening game, no team led by more than two points as the Wolves battled the favored visitors to the wire for the win. The second game was as lopsided as the first was close as the Wildcats jumped on Coupeville early and never let up.
The third game started out like the second with Archbishop Murphy jumping out early. Three times the Wolves found themselves down by eight points and each time they clawed back into contention, but ran out of time in the four-point loss.
In the final game, Murphy slowly pulled away to claim the match and raise its season record to 3-0.
Julie Swankie dished out 26 assists for the Wolves. Michelle Riddle had 11 kills, while Jessica Riddle added six kills and 11 digs.
Coupeville, now 2-1, plays defending state champion King’s Thursday at CHS at 7.
