First-place Stanwood blitzed the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team 34-7 in the second period on the way to an 89-37 win Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The Wildcats played well in the first quarter, according to coach John Weston, then the Spartans’ defense started to take its toll on Oak Harbor.
“We did a great job slowing them down early,” Weston said. “The first quarter defense was great. We did not turn the ball over as much as last game (an 82-37 loss).”
The Wildcats’ transition defense was also better this time around, Weston said.
Stanwood (6-0, 12-4) led 13-7 at the end of the opening period, then exploded for 34 points in the second quarter to lead 47-14 at halftime. The Spartans added 27 points in the third quarter to lead 74-31.
“They were able to get us out of our comfort zone on the offensive end, and we really were not clicking,” Weston said. “We took a lot of bad shots that were not within our offense.”
Dyllan Harris was a bright spot for Oak Harbor, scoring 22 points. Jordan Bell had four points; Taeson Hardin three; and Ozell Jackson, Princeton Lollar, Preston Rankin and Gabe Salinger two each.
Chase Strieby and Henry Oldow each scored 19 for Stanwood.
Oak Harbor (0-6, 1-15) hosts Arlington (3-3, 7-9) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29.
