After a heart-thumping 8-7 win over Burlington in the 10/11 district tournament in Sedro-Woolley last night,  North Whidbey gets another crack at Sedro-Woolley today, July 6, and a shot at the tournament title.

Sedro-Woolley defeated North Whidbey earlier in the tournament and is the only undefeated team remaining. Therefore, North Whidbey will have to defeat Sedro-Woolley twice to claim the crown.

The two teams meet at 6 p.m. tonight at Kiwanis Field in Sedro-Woolley. If NWLL wins, the clubs will square off again Saturday at 1 p.m.

In the Burlington game, Burlington narrowed the gap to 8-7 with a two-run double in the sixth and then reloaded the bases with one out. North Whidbey relief pitcher Trevor Sheils refocused and induced a pop up and ground out to secure the save.

Coach Dave Delano said North Whidbey “played great defense” to back Sheils.

Shane Vogt topped the strong defensive effort with a nice catch in the outfield, according to Delano.

Donny Kloewer led the offense with five RBI, including a three-run double that broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning.

Delano said, “It was an unbelievable team effort; everyone contributed.”
