This is a pattern North Whidbey Little League would like to avoid.

Three of the four 2012 North Whidbey all-star baseball teams placed second in their respective district tournaments, missing out by one spot state berths.

The latest runner up was the NWLL Major League (11/12) all stars who fell 8-3 to Burlington-Edison Thursday, July 12, in the District 11 championship game at Windjammer Park.

The Major League team now joins the NWLL Junior and 10/11 teams in the second slot.

Burlington-Edison used a power surge to roll by North Whidbey in the Major League matchup.

The Tigers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by Tyson Ross. Then after North Whidbey tied it in the top of the third, Austin Wright ripped a three-run shot in the bottom half of the inning to put Burlington up 5-2.

A double and three singles helped Burlington tack on three runs in the fourth.

North Whidbey picked up its two runs in the third on a walk to Dylan Bailey and singles by Jason Runkle and Chris Trisler.

The other NWLL run came in the fifth when Dylan Bailey walked and scored on Eli Bryson’s base hit.

North Whidbey starting pitcher Trisler struck out seven, hit one batter and surrendered nine hits.

North Whidbey collected only four hits.

North Whidbey coach Terri Mebane said her team played “much better” than the first meeting between the teams, a 10-0 Burlington win.

This time around, Mebane said, her club “just got out hit.”

She added that the tournament started a “good foundation” for the local baseball program. As a whole, the team “did well and had a good showing.”

Other members of the North Whidbey team were Andrew Eaton, Cory Roberts, Dominic Stevens, Ewan Preedit, Jacob McMurdo, Kamren Mebane, Kenneth Morrow, Paul Southerland Jr., Thomas Anderson and Will Danielson. Assistant coaches were Kian Mebane and Keith Machiela, and the coaching consultant was Jake Neumiller.
