The Wildcats kicked off the District 1, 3A baseball tournament with a 3-2 win when they hosted Snohomish Thursday.
“It was well-played by both teams,” coach Cody Anderson said. “We won a big game.”
Oak Harbor scored its runs in the fourth inning thanks to back-to-back doubles by Zachary Pyles and Brayden Rupp. The hits scored Jayson Champignon and Pyles. Jacob Figarelle’s single later in the inning scored Rupp, Anderson said. Pyles pitched the entire game for Oak Harbor.
Snohomish added runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Anderson complemented the defense both Snohomish and Oak Harbor played Thursday.
The win brings Oak Harbor’s overall record to 15-5 and they are currently ranked 14th in the WIAA’s RPI poll.
Up next for the Wildcats is Saturday when they travel to Edmonds-Woodway. The Warriors have an overall record of 16-4, are in first place in the Wesco South and ranked eighth in the state.
“They’ve been very good for lots of years,” Anderson said.
Game time is 2 p.m.
