Members of the Oak Harbor basketball teams recently received varsity letters and special awards.

Girls Basketball

Eleven different girls lettered for the Oak Harbor High School basketball team this season, led by multiple-year letter winners Jessica Denmon, Nicole Mowbray and Clarissa Abadesco.

Senior Denmon picked up her fourth varsity letter. She finished her outstanding Wildcat career by leading the Western Conference is scoring this winter with a 19.8 average. She was also first-team all-Wesco for the second year after being named to the second team her sophomore season and as honorable mention as a freshman.

Senior Mowbray, a two-year varsity letter winner, joined Denmon on the all-Wesco first team this year. She was the league’s fourth highest scorer with a 13.7 average. Last year she was honorable mention.

Junior Abadesco received her second varsity letter.

Seniors Jessica James, Molly DeLeon and Shantae Young each earned varsity letters.

Adrianna Royal and Janelle Yoshimoto joined Abadesco as junior letter winners.

Tatiana Cumming was the only sophomore letter winner.

Freshmen Emilie Renninger and Naomi Walker also lettered.

Special awards will be presented at the team’s banquet March 11.

The Wildcats were picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches’ poll and did just that with an 8-8 record.

Oak Harbor lost in the first round of the playoffs and ended the year with an 11-10 record.

Boys Basketball

Two 3-year lettermen highlighted the group of Oak Harbor boys basketball players who received varsity letters this season.

Senior Rashaad Smith and junior Jay Stout both earned their third varsity letter for the Wildcats this winter. Both were also two-time all-Wesco honorable mention athletes.

Smith was chosen as Oak Harbor’s Most Valuable Defensive Player, and Stout earned Most Valuable Offensive Player honors.

Two other seniors, Colby Anter and Ryan Fakkema, picked up varsity letters.

Juniors Stevie Bratt, Denzel Hardin and Trace Paul also lettered, as did sophomore Mike Washington Jr.

Conner Paul and David Tillotson were other members of the varsity team.

Washington was chosen as the team’s Most Valuable Player. He was named to the all-Wesco second team for the second year.

Trace Paul was selected as the team’s Most Improved Player.

Oak Harbor was predicted to finish fifth in the Wesco North by the league’s coaches in a preseason poll. The Wildcats placed sixth with a 5-11 conference record and 6-14 season mark.
