Winning 2-0 at Arlington Thursday, Oct. 18, in the regular season finale might not be enough to lift the Oak Harbor High School soccer team into the playoffs.
Playoffs or not, Oak Harbor finished the season with a 6-9-1 record, best for the Wildcats in the past decade.
The Wildcats, 4-9-1 in Wesco play, entered the contest 13th in the RPI standings and need to be in the top 10 to earn a district tournament berth. The final rankings were not available at press time.
Oak Harbor also played Snohomish this week, losing to the visiting Panthers 2-1 Tuesday.
In that match, Snohomish (9-3-1, 10-4-1) scored just before halftime to take a 1-0 lead and then added another goal midway through the second period.
Gracie Hiteshew punched one in for the Wildcats, but Oak Harbor could not get the equalizer.
In Arlington (5-7-1, 6-8-1), the teams were scoreless at halftime, then Tiana Jackson tallied a pair of breakaway goals for the Wildcats.
“Olivia Lerch and goalie Jada Matthews had one of their better games tonight,” coach Mike Lonborg said.
