After a series of tense matches, the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team had a reasonably easy time in its 3-0 win over visiting Meadowdale Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The Wildcats rocked the winless Mavericks 25-13, 25-11, 25-19.

Oak Harbor coach Kerri Molitor said she was concerned coming into the match that her team would take Meadowdale (0-4, 0-6) lightly and not be ready to play.

“I was worried we might not be focused,” she said. “I am really happy with our start.”

The Wildcats blitzed the Mavericks early in game one to set the tone for the night.

Dee Sornthom’s strong defense spurred the first-set win, according to Molitor,

In game two, AnnaBelle Whitefoot “had a solid game,” Molitor said, including a long run serving to help Oak Harbor pull away.

Molitor mixed up her lineup in game three, and the unfamiliarity allowed Meadowdale to hang around, she said.

“In practice we do a lot of changes; I don’t know why we have trouble with it in games,” Molitor said.

Hailee Blau topped the offense with eight kills, and Claire Anderson added six to go along with a team-high 20 digs.

Hailey Beecher and Whitefoot each served three aces.

Beecher had 10 assists and Natalie McVey 14.

Oak Harbor (3-1, 3-3) goes to Snohomish to face league-leading Glacier Peak (4-0, 4-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2.
