Oak Harbor finished in the middle of the pack at the Western Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday, Oct. 22, at Lakewood High School in Smokey Point.
All 21 Wesco schools, regardless of classification, competed at the meet, and the Wildcat boys finished 11th and the girls 15th.
The event featured 879 runners, including a whopping 342 in the JV boys race, over the 5,000-meter course.
Glacier Peak captured both the boys and girls titles. The Grizzly boys had 74 points; Oak Harbor tallied 319. In the girls race, GP took the top spot with 90 points; the Wildcats had 348.
The Oak Harbor boys were sixth among 3A schools and fourth among the Wesco North teams. The girls were eighth in 3A and third in the North.
Sophomore Alexis Smith (19:52.73) recorded Oak Harbor’s best finish, taking 29th out of 167 in the girls varsity race. Yukino Parle of Edmonds-Woodway won in 18:01.77.
Michael Lym (16:58.73) led the Wildcat boys, grabbing 42nd out of 190. E-W’s Matthew Park took first in 15:47.02.
Oak Harbor, along with 64 other schools from all classifications, will compete at the District 1 Championships Saturday, Oct. 29, at South Whidbey High School. The 3A varsity girls race begins at 10:35 a.m. and the 3A varsity boys at 11:40.
