Post season play begins Wednesday for the Oak Harbor and Coupeville high school tennis teams.
The Wildcats travel to Stanwood for the Wesco North tournament while the Wolves ferry to Friday Harbor for their district tournament.
In the Wesco tournament, the top four singles and doubles teams will advance to the district tournament next Wednesday at Stanwood. At Coupeville’s district, first place in singles and doubles qualifies for the quad-district tournament in May. (Some schools play boys’ tennis in the spring; therefore, the state tournament is held then.) The second place finishers will have a play-in match to qualify for the quad-district tournament.
Oak Harbor’s Derek Thomas is the No. 2 seed and Josh Evans the No. 8 seed for the Wesco North singles tournament. Ben Cardinal and Max O’Dell received the No. 8 seed in doubles. Unseeded David DeGuzman and Geoff Worley will also compete in doubles.
Coupeville coach Ken Stange will send singles players Connor Tasoff and Ben Hayes, and the doubles duos of Travis Curtin and Garrett Knoll and brothers Jordan and Nathan Lamb.
