The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team had an unexpectedly easy time with Post 7 of Bellingham Saturday, defeating the visitors 14-0 and 8-2.

Post 7 entered the twin bill with an 11-1 record according to Oak Harbor coach Tyson VanDam, but its pitchers struggled with their control and the Wildcats took advantage.

Over the two games, Bellingham yielded 14 walks and hit eight batters.

The five-inning first game took barely over an hour as Teddy Peterschmidt pitched a two hitter with four strike outs and no walks.

After a scoreless first inning, Oak Harbor put up six runs in the second. Singles by Clay Doughty, Danny Wolfe, Anthony Stewart and Brent Mertins, aided by three walks and two hit batters, produced the six runs.

Oak Harbor added five more in the third on hits by C.J. Meders, Rhys Matilla and Doughty and an error, walk and three hit batters.

Mertins’ double and Peterschmidt’s single highlighted a three-run fourth.

Oak Harbor finished with nine hits, two each by Mertins and Doughty.

In game two, Stewart led off with a single and eventually scored on a double-steal attempt to help Oak Harbor lead 1-0.

Oak Harbor scored five runs in the second inning on only one hit, a single by Jozef Mendoza. Bellingham walked six and hit one batter in the inning.

Oak Harbor added single runs in the third and fifth. A walk, error and Mendoza’s sacrifice fly scored the third-inning run. Peterschmidt singled in the fifth and eventually scored on Brandon Bailey’s ground out.

Starting pitcher Wolfe took a no hitter into the sixth when Post 7 registered all three of its hits and scored two runs, both unearned. Wolfe struck out five and walked two.

Stewart was the only Oak Harbor player with more than one hit, getting two singles.

Oak Harbor (6-2, 3-1) hosts South Whidbey at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11.
