The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team couldn’t get its offense going in the summer league opener, falling 5-1 at Meridian Wednesday, June 3.

The Wildcats mustered only five hits off Meridian’s Derek Campfield. Campfield struck out eight, walked none and retired the Wildcats in order in four of the seven innings.

Oak Harbor scored its only run in the fourth inning. Tyler Snavely doubled home Trent Benson, who had singled.

Snavely and Benson were the only Wildcats to solve Campfield. Snavely went 3-for-3 in the game, and Benson singled twice. No other Oak Harbor batter reached base.

Meridian, on the other hand, slugged 13 hits, scoring once in the second and twice in the third and fifth innings.

Oak Harbor’s original league opener with Sedro-Woolley Tuesday was rained out.

That game will be made up as part of a double header at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in Oak Harbor.
