Fielding a team comprised of five of the top eight golfers in the Northwest Conference, Oak Harbor’s girls golf team captured the conference championship.
“We’ve done really well in league,” coach Andy Wesley said. “They work hard and put a lot of time in.”
They wrapped up their regular season May 2 with a match against seven Northwest Conference schools at Whidbey Golf Club.
Junior Addison Nations and sophomore Scarlett Nations and sophomore Reagan Syring are the top three golfers in the conference while senior Hailey Jenzen is fifth and sophomore Addison Wesley is eighth.
Addison Nations and Scarlett Nations have probably been playing golf since they could stand, Wesley said.
“They’ve been taking it seriously for the past three years,” Wesley said. “They lead by example.”
Teamwise, Oak Harbor was in first with 3,144 points, Burlington Edison was second with 4,009 points and Meridian was third with 4,021 points.
Oak Harbor won the Northwest Conference and district championships in 2023.
The District 3, 3A/4A girls golf tournament takes place May 13 and May 14 at the Snohomish Golf Course.
Wesley said the golfers are hoping to qualify for the state tournament and make it to the second day of competition.
“They want to make the cut at state, and they’ve been working hard,” Wesley said.
In 2023, Oak Harbor as a team missed the cut to qualify for the second day by 11 strokes, Wesley said. The top eight teams qualify for the second day and Oak Harbor finished 10th in 2023.
Addison Nations qualified individually for the second day at the state tournament in 2023. She placed 34th.
The state 3A girls golf tournament takes place May 21-22 at Eagles Pride Golf Course in DuPont.
