Woodinville scored all of its run in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat Oak Harbor 7-2 Monday, Aug. 1, in the quarterfinals of the Legion A state baseball tournament at Lacey’s North Thurston High School.
Oak Harbor now faces Moses Lake in a loser-out game at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. The winner advances to the championship series Wednesday beginning at 3 against either Woodinville or Snohomish.
Three of the four remaining teams are from the same district — Oak Harbor and Snohomish from the
Area 1 North Division and Woodinville from the Area 1 South Division.
Oak Harbor led 2-0 before Woodinville erupted for four runs in the fifth to jump into the lead. The winners put the game away with a three-run sixth.
The Wildcats got both their runs in the fifth on some sloppy play by Woodinville. Grant Schroeder boarded on an error, then Ben Etzell reached when Woodinville didn’t record an out on a fielder’s choice. Schroeder eventually scored on a wild pitch and Etzell on Austyn Walker’s fielder’s choice.
Oak Harbor struggled offensively all evening as Christopher Okura pitched a two hitter with nine strikeouts.
Schroeder and Etzell recorded the only Oak Harbor hits.
A walk and four hits helped Woodinville score four in the fifth, and two walks and three hits led to three runs in the sixth.
Woodinville touched Wildcat pitchers Teddy Peterschmidt and Zach Zimmer for 12 hits and five walks, striking out only once.
