Taking advantage of five forfeits, the Oak Harbor High School boys wrestling team clipped visiting Mariner 58-30 Thursday, Dec. 12.
The two teams split the eight matches that were contested.
Cole Valdez (120 pounds), Jamal Graham (132), Timothy Luttrell-Dinger (145) and Evan Beerbower (170) won matches for the Wildcats.
Derek Salazar-Leyva (106), Noah Hangan (160), Zachary English (195), Salvador Tirado (220) and Ivan Snyder (285) all received forfeits.
Oak Harbor forfeited the 138-pound match to Mariner (1-2).
“I like how we came out strong, physical,” Oak Harbor coach Larry Falcon said.
“We are physically stronger than we have been in the past,” he added. “We hit the weight room every day; the kids are hungry and aggressive.”
Falcon lauded the effort of Graham, and noted that Luttrell-Dinger looked good in his varsity debut.
The Wildcats compete in the Gator Invitational at Decatur High School Saturday, Dec. 14.
Lakewood (2-2) and Kamiak (0-3) come to Oak Harbor (2-0) to face the Wildcats and Marysville-Pilchuck (2-0) in a double dual meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.
