Although the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team didn’t enter athletes in five weight classes, it still finished third in the 27-team Everett Classic at Jackson High School Saturday, Jan. 4.
Jeremy Vester (132 pounds), Jahleel Vester (138) and Mark Johnston (152) each won individual championships, while Christian Bertram (113) and Jackson Constant (285) finished third.
Ferndale won the team title with 144 points, and Mount Vernon edged Oak Harbor for second 125-122.
Jeremy Vester and Johnston both defeated wrestlers who stopped them earlier this season and Jahleel Vester overcame a 9-3 deficit to win their championships.
After losing 7-5 in the opening round, Constant recorded four pins to nab third. The final fall came over the opponent who defeated him in round one.
Bertram collected three pins, and his only loss was by one point in the semifinals.
