The Oak Harbor High School cross country teams finished in the middle of the pack at the Western Conference Championships Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lakewood High School.
All 23 Wesco schools, regardless of classification, ran together in the meet.
The Wildcat girls placed 11th and the boys 14th.
4A Glacier Peak captured the girls meet with 64 points. Oak Harbor finished with 377, good for sixth among 3A schools and third among Wesco North teams.
3A Arlington, with 67 points, took the boys title. The Wildcats tallied 412 and, like the Oak Harbor girls, were sixth among 3A teams and third in the Wesco North.
Alex Smith was the top Wildcat female, placing 25th out of 173 over the 5,000-meter course in 19:22.5, a season best.
She was 14th among 3A runners and fifth in the Wesco North.
All of the other Wildcat girls posted personal records in the meet.
Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens won the race in 17:22.6, second-best among 4A runners this fall.
Smith’s time ranks 44th among state 3A athletes.
The Oak Harbor boys were led by Dallas Riddle-Stevens, who took 46th out of 196 in 16:30.3. He was 23rd in the 3A standings and 11th in the Wesco North.
Jackson’s Joseph Skoog won the boys title with a 15:23.5, sixth-best for a 4A runner this season.
Riddle-Stevens owns the 33rd-best 3A time in Washington.
Six of the nine Wildcat boys who competed Saturday established personal records.
Oak Harbor will compete in the District 1 meet Saturday, Oct. 27, at South Whidbey High School.
The Wildcat girls run at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11:10.
The top three teams and the top 21 individuals earn state meet berths.
