The Oak Harbor High School soccer team scored in the first half and held on for a tense, 1-0 win over Ferndale at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Tuesday, March 22.
“It was a nail-biter right to the end,” Oak Harbor coach Brian Thompson said.
Cameron Costner scored off an assist from Kegan Snell for the game’s only goal.
“We had a couple more opportunities but did not finish,” Thompson said.
Oak Harbor’s defense withstood a Golden Eagle charge at the end.
Andrew Franssen “cleared a well-placed shot off the goal line” late in the game, according to Thompson.
“Jared Hoyt made a great save with 30 seconds left in the game,” he added. “These saves took a lot of determination and showed our team is willing to fight right up until the end.”
The victory was Oak Harbor’s (1-2-1) first; the Golden Eagles (2-1-1) lost for the first time.
The Wildcats start Wesco play when they host Lynnwood (2-1-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25.
