Getting two wins in both singles and doubles carried the Oak Harbor High School tennis team to a 4-3 win at Ferndale Monday, March 21.
The win was the Wildcats’ first of the spring and broke a string of four consecutive 5-2 losses.
Oak Harbor captured both first and second singles. Tamia Rios claimed a 6-3, 6-4 win, while AnnaBelle Whitefoot blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Elma Marie Empinado and Ria Bains took second doubles 6-1, 7-6(4).
The match was decided by a three-set win — 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-2 — by Emma Wezeman and Emily Brown in third doubles.
In other singles play, Lauren Aspery (6-1, 7-6[6]) and Peyton Carlson (6-0, 6-0) lost.
Brianne DeGuzman and Aelizah Espiritu fell in first doubles 6-1, 6-1.
The Wildcats (1-4) will play their sixth match in six school days when they host Glacier Peak (2-0) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22.
