The Oak Harbor High School swim team defeated host Marysville-Pilchuck but lost to Marysville Getchell Tuesday, Jan. 12.
The Wildcats thumped M-P 109-61 and were edged by the Chargers 89-84.
The difference in the loss to Marysville Getchell (1-5) was diving. Oak Harbor does not field any divers, so the Chargers collected 13 points in the event. That helped Getchell build a 51-36 lead midway through the meet.
Oak Harbor clawed back to go up 80-79 heading into the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, which the Chargers won to eke out the victory.
The Wildcats collected four firsts in the combined results, two by Joe Gorman (200 freestyle, 2:02.33; 500 free, 5:39.52). Eric Jenson won the 100 butterfly (1:00.46), and Jared Hunt took the 100 breaststroke (1:19.32).
Oak Harbor added six seconds: Andrew Snyder, 200 individual medley, 2:50.43; Jensen, 50 free, 25.27; Logan Clark, 100 free, 1:02.33; Cole McCaslin, 500 free, 6:02.56; 200 medley relay (Quinn Karney, Jose Cabigting, Garrett Karney, Clark), 2:14.27; and 200 free relay (Clark, Jensen, McCaslin, Gorman), 1:44.17.
