The Oak Harbor and Sedro-Woolley Legion baseball teams split a doubleheader Thursday, June 4, in Oak Harbor.
The Wildcats won the opener 3-2, while the Cubs recovered to take game two 3-0.
The Wildcats’ bats were quiet most of the afternoon, scoring in only one of the 14 innings.
Down 2-0 in the first game, Oak Harbor scored three runs in the fifth inning to get the win.
Pinch hitter Damian Simpkins led off the inning with a walk. Trent Benson then blooped a single to center that skipped off the diving fielder’s glove. Dylan Bailey followed with a bunt and beat the throw to first when the pitcher, who fielded the ball, first peaked at third to see if he could get the lead runner.
With bases loaded, Tyler Snavely drilled a hot grounder down the right field line that scored two runs. Robert Herring singled in Bailey to complete the scoring.
Herring finished 2-for-2 for the game.
Avery Aguirre pitched a complete game, five-hitter for the win.
In the second game, Herring also had two hits, including a leadoff double in the second inning, but Oak Harbor couldn’t break through.
Bailey, Snavely and Aguirre collected the only hits for Oak Harbor.
Sedro-Woolley had six hits in the game, getting three in two different innings off starter Snavely to push across three runs.
Snavely put the Cubs down in order each other inning.
