Fresh off a series of highly successful regional seasons, the Oak Harbor High School NJROTC shooting team is taking a step up in competition this year and competing in the Orion National Air Rifle League.

Oak Harbor, coached by Dave Goodman, also added a precision team to its traditional sporter class, and the two teams split in the first round of action this week.

Oak Harbor’s precision team defeated William Floyd NJROTC of Mastic Beach, N.Y., 1,072-951. Marjorie Rouse led the way with a 278. Other Wildcat shooters were Austin McBride, Montana Koslowski and Elena Flake.

Next, Oak Harbor will square off with San Antonio’s Central Catholic AJROTC team.

In sporter competition, Oak Harbor lost to perennial national power Zion Benton NJROTC of Zion, Ill., 1,099-1,008.

Micah Moss topped the Wildcats with a 272. Liberti Chastain-Chomyn, Elizabeth Adams and Steven Richards also competed for Oak Harbor.

Goodman said, “Since we do not train year round, we have a short but identifiable learning curve at the beginning of each year. In another month we should be able to beat Zion Benton.”

The Wildcats face Auburndale NJROTC of Lakeland, Fla., next.
