Getting back to its winning ways, the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team thumped Meadowdale 60-18 and Mountlake Terrace 48-21 in a double-dual meet at Stanwood Tuesday, Dec. 15.
Stanwood lost to Meadowdale 60-18 and to Terrace 66-24.
Oak Harbor coach Larry Falcon said his club showed improvement from last week’s double-dual loss.
“We seem to be coming together and working on the same mission,” he said.
The group is getting more varsity experience, he added, and “utilizing what we are coaching.”
The Oak Harbor-Meadowdale match started at 145 pounds, and the Wildcats won nine of the first 10 bouts. The only loss was a forfeit a 220 pounds.
The beginning of the Mountlake Terrace match, however, didn’t go as smoothly as Oak Harbor dropped three of the first four matches.
During the comeback, Sam Zook defeated Ilai Wilson 8-4 in a battle of two of the area’s best heavyweights; Garrett Stahl (120) recorded a defensive pin; and Dymond Piper (152) “had a great granbee roll” for a fall, according to Falcon.
Oak Harbor (4-2) will travel to Bellingham at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, for the Graham Morin Invitational at Squalicum High School.
