The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team opened its summer league season with a 5-2 win over visiting Burlington Monday, June 3.
The contest was a makeup game for last Thursday’s rainout and lifted Oak Harbor’s season record to 4-0.
Oak Harbor zipped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Brent Mertin’s reached on catcher’s interference, Danny Wolfe singled and both scored on C.J. Meders’ double.
Oak Harbor made it 5-0 with a three-run fourth. Meders and Teddy Peterschmidt singled, and Meders scored on Casiano Atienza’s base hit. An error allowed a second run to score, and then Mertins’ singled in another.
Starting pitcher Peterschmidt, changing speeds effectively, kept the Sox off balance all evening. Burlington scored single unearned runs in the fifth and seventh as Peterschmidt tossed a five hitter.
Meders’ two hits, two RBI and double led the offense.
Oak Harbor goes to Burlington Tuesday, June 4, and hosts Sedro-Woolley at 6 p.m. Thursday.
