Two excellent pitching performances highlighted the Oak Harbor Legion baseball team’s championship run through the Skagit Wood Bat Invitational Tournament in Mount Vernon July 5-7.
Oak Harbor, behind a one-hitter by Teddy Peterschmidt, ripped Bellingham’s Post 7 10-1 Sunday, July 7, in the championship game at the Skagit Valley Dream Field.
Friday at the Dream Field, Oak Harbor stopped the Seattle Stars 8-3 and the Victoria Mariners 1-0.
In the win over the Mariners, Brent Mertins singled in the seventh and scored all the way from first on a hit-and-run base hit by Anthony Stewart for the game’s only run.
Saturday at Sherman Anderson Field, Oak Harbor fell to the Washington Rush 5-1, and then earned a spot in the title game with a 3-1 win on Mertins’ no hitter over Bellevue’s Phiten.
Oak Harbor (18-9) goes to Stanwood Tuesday, July 9, for a double header beginning at 3 p.m. and then hosts Ferndale Thursday, July 11, at 2 p.m. for another twin bill.
The two double headers are the final league games.
