Only two letter winners return for the Oak Harbor High School girls golf team, which hopes to improve on its fifth-place finish in the Wesco North last year.
Back for the Wildcats are senior captain Beth Paul and last year’s Rookie of the Year, sophomore Natasha Decker.
Sophomore Makenna Ronning and freshman Jazmine Arguello are key newcomers, according to coach Andy Wesley.
While the team lacks veteran players, Wesley is pleased with his “young team that is eager to learn the sport of golf.”
The goals for the season are to qualify as many girls as possible for the district tournament and “have a good time learning the sport,” Wesley said.
“Hopefully we will build a foundation that will carry us into a few years of being very successful in Wesco,” he added.
The Wildcats will play in the Sedro-Woolley Jamboree at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the Avalon Golf Course.
At 3 p.m. Thursday, March 15, Oak Harbor meets Shorecrest at the Jackson Park Golf Course before hosting the 21-team Whidbey Shootout at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Whidbey Golf Club.
