One bad quarter sinks Oak Harbor

The Oak Harbor boys basketball team has been plagued by one bad quarter of play in nearly every game this season.

Tuesday was no exception when the Wildcats netted just four points in the third quarter and dropped a 55-43 decision to Cascade in a WesCo North game.

The Wildcats were right in the hunt at halftime trailing 31-27, but the third period prevented the team from picking up its initial league victory of the season.

Mike Washington, Jr. scored a game-high 20 points for Oak Harbor, 0-8 league, 1-11 overall, and Aaron Boesch had eight.

Cascade had three players in double figures, led by Chris McGrath with 20 points. Johnnie Hilliard scored 14 points and teammate Spencer Hancock had 10.

League win eludes Coupeville

Tuesday’s Cascade Conference basketball game between Coupeville and Lakewood was another close one.

The Wolves trailed 11-4 after the first quarter but came rallying back, only to lose the game by a narrow six-point margin, 40-34.

The defeat keeps the Wolf Pack girls winless in league games at 0-6.

Coupeville, 3-9 overall, cut into the lead to trail 17-14 at the break but Lakewood pulled ahead once again, outscoring the Wolves 11-8 in the third period.

Megan Smith scored 17 points for Coupeville and Cassidi Rosenkrance had seven.

Anna Work paced Lakewood with 16 points and teammate Jocelyn Shafer had 10 points.
