Wildcat splashers win big 123-50
John Hu and Tyler Schell set state qualifying times in the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle as the Oak Harbor High School swim team dominated Jackson 123 to 50 in a WesCo League meet Tuesday afternoon at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.
The win keeps the Wildcats undefeated at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in league meets.
Hu’s time of 54.96 in the 100 freestyle was the fifth state time the senior has recorded this season.
Schell, who qualified for the Class 4A state meet earlier in the season, lowered his time in the 400 freestyle to 4:21.01.
The Wildcats were in complete control start to finish, and won every event except the 200 individual medley.

Wolves drop La Conner 65-49
The Coupeville High School boys basketball team got off to a flying start in Tuesday’s non-league game scoring the first eight points, and went on to defeat La Conner 65-49 and up their season record to 2-0.
Jason Bagby had the hot hand in the first quarter, knocking down a couple of 3-point shots as Coupeville built a 20-13 lead.
The Wolf Pack continued to burn the net in the second period as they scored 19 additional points while holding the Braves to six. They were comfortably in front 39-19 at halftime.
Coupeville had a trio of players score in double figures, led by Cody Peters with 14 points. Bagby had 13 and Hunter Hammer scored 10.
Erik Lindeman led the Braves with a game-high 20 points.
Top ranked Braves win by 30
La Conner High School, the top-ranked girls basketball team in Northwest 1A/2B League, held Coupeville to single-digit scoring in every quarter of Tuesday’s non-league game and defeated the Wolves 53-23.
The Wolf Pack hung with the Braves in the first quarter trailing by a single point but by halftime, La Conner had extended the advantage to 19-11.
The second half was a disaster with La Conner outscoring the Wolves 34-12 to put the game in the book and drop Coupeville’s preseason record to 1-2.
Megan Smith scored 10 points to lead Coupeville.
Kelsey Kennedy had a game-high 17 points and teammate Megan Raymond had 11 to pace La Conner.
