Wildcats finish 11th at state swim meet
Defending champion John Hu finished second to WesCo North rival Trevor LeValley from Marysville-Pilchuck in the 200-meter individual medley at the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Class 4A state championship swim meet held Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
LeValley was timed at 1:55.02 and Hu touched the wall at 1:55.63.
Hu also reached the finals in the 100-meter butterfly event where he swam to a sixth-place finish in a time of 53.53.
Richland’s Cody Roberts won the event in a state-record time of 47.81.
Also reaching the finals for Oak Harbor was Yale Rosen, who swam to a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.96.
Kamiak was the team winner scoring 222 points with Shorewood second (206) and Gig Harbor (201) finishing third.
The Wildcats had a team total of 81 points.

Elliot, Alter place sixth on mat
Oak Harbor grapplers Colton Elliot and Tina Alter both finished sixth in their respective weight divisions at the Mat Classic state wrestling championships Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.
In the 125-pound weight division, Elliott lost his first match 9-0 to Trevor Mills from Todd Beamer High School and that dropped him into the tournament’s consolation bracket.
In his first consolation bout, he beat Central Valley’s Trevor Delmedico 11-5 and then beat Nico Moreno from Moses Lake 14-10, to keep his hopes alive.
On Saturday, Elliot won the first bout 14-0 over Nolan Richards from Skyline, but lost to No. 1 seeded Adam Ferguson from South Kitsap 10-3.
That loss sent Elliot into the bout for fifth place, where he was pinned at the 4:02
mark by Steven Walkley from Lake Stevens.
Alter, wrestling in the girls 160-pound weight class, won both of her first-day bouts, but then lost 17-0 in a technical fall to No.-1 seeded Alyssa Calhoun from West Valley on Saturday.
Calhoun ended up winning the state championship.
Coming back against Tiesha McCarthy, Alter was pinned by the Washougal wrestler at the 2:54 mark. That loss also put her in the fifth-place bout where she had to settle for sixth place, losing to No. 2 seed Lilia Gudzyuk from Auburn Riverside.
Lake Stevens was the boys state champion with 169 points and Snohomish finished second with 102.50 points.
The Wildcats scored eight points to finish in a tie with Curtis, Kentridge, Stanwood and Richland for 38th place.
Sedro-Woolley was the girls state champion with 109.50 points, with Kelso second at 72.
Oak Harbor tied with Monroe for 49th place with nine points.
