Red Wolves stop Oak Harbor / Girls basketball

The Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team outscored visiting Cedarcrest in the first and fourth periods, but the Red Wolves struck for big points in the middle two quarters to salvage a 60-45 win Friday, Jan. 10.

Cedarcrest outscored Oak Harbor 38-17 in the second and third quarters to overcome the Wildcats’ 28-22 advantage in the first and third.

Oak Harbor scored 6 points from the free-throw line and received a three-pointer from Mikhaela Cortez to end the first quarter in a 9-9 tie.

Anna Jones score 7 points in the second quarter for Oak Harbor, but the Red Wolves, behind 8 points from Ava Erhardt and 7 from Kat Townley, piled up 21 points and led 30-21 at the break.

Helena Van Ess tallied 8 of Cedarcrest’s 17 third-period points and the Red Wolves limited the Wildcats to only 5 as Oak Harbor fell behind 47-26.

Oak Harbor scored 19 points — including 7 by Cortez and 6 by Jasmine Ford — in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t nearly enough to get the Wildcats back into the game.

Ford finished with 13 points, Jones 12 and Cortez 11 to pace Oak Harbor. Chloe Frank added 4, Tiana Jackson 3 and Grace Waite 2.

Townley topped Cedarcrest (2-2, 8-2) with 18.

Oak Harbor (0-5, 6-5) goes to Meadowdale (3-1, 7-3) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14.
