Oak Harbor High School senior Adrianna Royal placed 11th in the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic cross country championship race in Hoover, Ala., Dec. 11.

The 11th-place finish in the young women’s division earned Royal All-American honors.

Royal, who is currently playing basketball for the Wildcats, met her one- and two-mile goals (5:50 and 12:23) in the 5K race, but said she had “a slow third mile” to finish in 20:01.

She said, “With basketball, I haven’t trained for distance endurance, but was happy with my mile and two-mile times.”

Krista Menghini won the event in 19:02.
