S-Cubed shooting teams finished eighth and 13th at the Civilian Marksmanship Program Western Regional Tournament April 6-8 in Layton, Utah.
The Whidbey sporter team captured eighth, while the precision unit nabbed 13th.
Individually, Elena Flake was ninth among 70 precision shooters and Jason Montano, Lauren Crossley and Michael White finished 29th-31st out of 79 in sporter.
Montano, Crossley and White are “in range” to earn Excellence in Competition points used to receive a Distinguished Rifleman Badge, according to coach Dave Goodman.
Also shooting for Oak Harbor were Julia Flake, Jaelyn O’Hara and Issac Gomez in precision, and Rylan Quiros and Cierra LeGendre in sporter.
“It is worth noting five of our shooters were new to competition at this level,” Goodman said. “Two of our precision shooters have been in precision less than two months. We were competing against athletes who have been shooting two-to-four years at this level, so our performance was extraordinary.”
