The Coupeville High School soccer team is the early leader of the Olympic League standings after winning 3-0 at Port Townsend Saturday, Sept. 17.

The Wolves are now 2-0 in conference play (2-1-1 overall); Port Townsend (0-2, 0-4) remains winless.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless tie at halftime, and Coupeville coach Troy Cowan was not happy. The Redhawks had been outscored 24-2 in their previous three matches.

“The second half was much better,” Cowan said.

Mia Littlejohn continued her torrid scoring, punching in all three goals in Saturday’s win after getting five goals in the past two matches.

Two of the goals were the result of “awesome corner kicks” by Sage Renninger, according to Cowan.

Goalkeeper Lauren Grove “had an awesome match,” Cowan said. “She was commanding and in charge.”

Coupeville will play two non-league matches this week, going to Mount Vernon Christian (1-3) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, and hosting North Mason (1-1-2) at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22.
