One big inning of offense wasn’t enough as the North Whidbey Little League 11/12 baseball team fell 13-6 to Sedro-Woolley in the championship game of the District 11 tournament Tuesday, July 12, in Sedro-Woolley.

Sedro-Woolley earned a trip to the state tournament with the win.

North Whidbey exploded for six runs in the third inning to go ahead 6-3. That was pretty much it for the NW offense; it put only six runners aboard over the five other innings.

“Their second pitcher was really good,” North Whidbey coach Justin Ronning said. “We were able to get a little going against him one inning but those singles were all little dribblers in the infield.”

Sedro-Woolley, on the other hand, scored in every inning. It regained the lead, 7-6, with four runs in the fourth inning and played add-on from there.

“They hit everything we threw at them,” Ronning said.

Sedro-Woolley scored single runs in each of the first three innings, then came North Whidbey’s uprising.

The first six North Whidbey batters reached base in the bottom of the third.

Brock Boyer and Gage McLeod singled and Will Rankin followed with a walk. Tyler Zenger singled, Jordan Ronning walked and Ethan Abbott boarded on a fielder’s choice that failed to get an out. They all scored. Conor Jerry pushed in one of the runs with a sacrifice fly.

Boyer and McLeod finished with two hits to lead the North Whidbey offense. Ronning ripped a double and Zenger and Zane Ferguson added singles.

Sedro-Woolley collected 11 hits and seven walks.
