The Sedro-Woolley Babe Ruth baseball team took advantage of 15 free passes to defeat Oak Harbor 15-2 Tuesday, May 7, at Clover Valley Park.
Sedro-Woolley collected only five hits, but received 13 walks and two hit batters from Oak Harbor pitchers to roll to the five-inning win. Oak Harbor also committed five errors.
Eight walks helped Sedro-Woolley pull away with a seven-run second inning.
Oak Harbor scored single runs in the first and third.
In the first, Jordan Davenport walked and scored on Paul Spence’s single.
In the third, Chris Levy singled and eventually scored on Spence’s sacrifice fly.
Austin Hauter recorded the only other Oak Harbor hit.
While the pitchers struggled to throw strikes, not all was bad according to coach Bill Young. He lauded the defensive plays turned in by Spence, Davenport, Dylan Bailey, Paul Southerland, Dominic Sotoa Stevens and Trent Benson.
