The Sequim High School baseball team scored two runs in the first inning and played add-on the rest of the way in a 9-3 win over visiting Coupeville Monday, April 17.
Sequim scored runs in all but one inning for the non-league victory, beating Coupeville for the second time this season and upping its record to 7-4.
“We couldn’t stop them from scoring, and (their pitchers) controlled us and kept us off balance in all but one inning,” Coupeville coach Chris Smith said.
That one inning was the third when Coupeville scored all three of its runs. Clay Reilly started the inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Julian Welling (who singled in the second inning) reached on an error and Dane Lucero singled. Welling scored on Kory Score’s ground out and Lucero scored on an error off the bat of Jake Hoagland.
Matt Hilborn followed with a single and Hunter Smith walked to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the rally.
Coupeville (2-1, 6-6) plays a non-league home game with La Conner (2-3) at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20, before going to first-place Klahowya (4-0, 5-3) on Friday, April 21.
