Dodging raindrops and wind, Hydros for Heroes completed its annual thunderfest in Oak Harbor Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16.
“The weather certainly was a challenge,” said Race Director Jim Woessner. “The hardy crowd, which was fairly large, that showed up Saturday saw some great back-to-back racing.”
Despite the weather, all 16 heats were completed Saturday.
“Wind gusts that came through on Sunday raised havoc with our grounds and tents, but our all-volunteer crews chipped in to put the grounds back together,” Woessner said.
The high winds, however, did cause the cancellation of several Sunday heats.
“The race boat drivers did an excellent job of staying safe while racing hard on the choppy water,” he said. “We had no incidents on the course.
“The drivers and crews put on a fantastic show with some great side-by-side racing throughout the weekend.”
Mother Nature cooperated Sunday afternoon and the sun peeked through for the awards ceremony at the completion of the competition.
