Glacier Peak had an obvious height advantage, but it was the smallest girl on the court that did the most damage in the Grizzlies’ 61-20 win over the host Oak Harbor girls basketball team Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Five-foot-three Taylor Rasmussen scorched the Wildcats with 26 points, hitting six three-pointers along the way. The game’s smallest player also had a game-high six rebounds.

The league-leading Grizzlies started three players taller than Oak Harbor’s tallest starter, 5-8 Dominique Jackson, including 6-4 Nicole Fausey, but Glacier Peak attacked from the outside. Ironically, Fausey was the only one of the 11 Grizzly players not to score.

GP (7-0, 10-1) launched 30 shots from beyond the arc, hitting nine, and took only 23 shots from two-point range.

Overall, the Grizzlies fired up 53 shots to 33 for Oak Harbor thanks to forcing 44 Wildcat turnovers with a suffocating press. At one point in the first quarter, Oak Harbor committed seven consecutive turnovers and nine in 10 possessions.

Oak Harbor did, however, hold its own on the boards as each team collected 27 rebounds.

The Grizzlies led 17-4, 34-9 and 50-18 at the quarters.

Jackson recorded eight points for Oak Harbor, Jalani Bobo and Annie Leete had three each, and Tatiana Cumming, Kelsey Rankin and Ciera Wiser added two a piece.

Oak Harbor (0-7, 1-10) goes to Marysville Getchell (0-7, 0-11) Friday, Jan. 6, at 7:15 p.m. in a game of two teams searching for their first conference win.
