Oak Harbor High School sophomore Alex Smith qualified for the National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships by placing fifth at the regional qualifying race Saturday, Nov. 19, in West Linn, Ore.
Smith, 15, covered the muddy 5K course in 21:21 to qualify for the national meet for the third time.
The championship meet is set for Dec. 10 in Hoover, Ala.
