Stretches of strong play were not enough as the Coupeville High School soccer team lost 2-0 to South Whidbey Tuesday, March 26, at Mickey Clark Field.
The Wolves played well at the beginning of the match, coach Paul Mendes said, but couldn’t convert during the promising start.
He said, “Our boys were up for the big game, and we came out strong. We started well with some good ball possession at midfield.”
He added, “Unfortunately we did not convert our scoring opportunities, and South Whidbey did.”
Bryce Auburn and Steve Lyons scored for the Falcons; Connor McCauley assisted on both goals.
Though his team lost, Mendes said, “We had good moments of quality play, that we can build on.”
Coupeville (0-3, 0-4), still looking for its first goal of the season, travels to Sultan (0-3, 1-4) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29.
