Final swim lessons in 2008

Beginning next week, John Vanderzichit Swim School will be offering the final swim lesson session of the year.

Registration for the 10-lesson session will be Friday, Nov. 7, beginning at noon.

Classes are available for all ages including parent/child, pre-school, school age and adult.

Also, the pool has revamped its Friday night swim schedule.

The new schedule is as follows:

Lap swim, 5:35 to 6:30 p.m. (3 lanes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.); water aerobics, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; recreation swim 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; and teen swim 8:30 to 10 p.m.

55-plus volleyball

A new volleyball group for men and women ages 55 and older is being formed in Oak Harbor.

The group is open to all active participants 55 years of age or older in good physical condition, who want to enjoy the exercise, camaraderie and social interaction in the fun league.

The group will be playing on the first and third Friday nights each month beginning in January.

Shoot to win a turkey

The Central Whidbey Sportsmen’s Association is hosting its annual Presidents Benefit Turkey Shoot from a 9.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the clubhouse two and a half miles south of Coupeville on Safari Street just off Highway 20 and Morris Road.

The event is open to everyone and proceeds will go to a local benefit organization on Whidbey Island.

Tickets are $1.50 for each event or four for $5 and you can enter as many events as you like, one or all.

A one bird limit per individual will be in effect.

Events include six shots as a large bull’s-eye target from 25 yards with any iron-sighted pistol or revolver. Best six shots count.

Briquette shoot from 10 yards with any iron-sighted pistol or revolver. Break the most briquettes without hitting the tube.

Shotgun at a turkey target from 25 yards. Two shots with the most pellets in the white center wins.

Jug head at 25 yards. Six shots with any pistol or revolver with iron sights. Most rounds in bottle without hitting the jug head wins.

Rifle shoot. Five rounds at 50 yards at a bull’s-eye target using a .22 caliber rimfire with any sights.

Shooters ages 12 and under will shoot in a junior class.

Entrants are reminded to bring weapons and ammunition to the shoot. Anyone without a .22 caliber rifle or pistol, the club will supply one. For more information, call 675-7540, or 678-0960.

Legion baseball meets Nov. 23

A mandatory fall league meeting for all coaches of American Legion baseball teams is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the George Baldridge Post 43, 701 Murdock St., in Sedro-Woolley.

All existing legion programs must attend with their respective coaches to be eligible for the 2009 American Legion season.

The meeting will also be an opportunity for any new teams to register.
