Pool offers swim lessons

The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is offering its next 10-lesson session of swimming lessons beginning Tuesday, Oct. 7, at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.

Known as the John Vanderzicht Swim School, lessons will continue through Thursday, Nov. 6.

Classes offered are parent/child, pre-school, school age and adult.

Registration begins at noon Friday, Oct. 3.

Wildcat wrestlers wanted

The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club, a nonprofit local youth wrestling team for kids ages 5 through 18, announces registration the for the upcoming season.

The team practices Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week in the mat room at Oak Harbor High School.

There will be several tournaments scheduled this season along with three that the Wildcats will be hosting in Oak Harbor.

The cost to wrestle is $85, which includes a singlet, tee shirt and shorts. A separate USA Wrestling card must be purchased prior to/or at the first practice.

Registration will be held at the OHHS mat room Oct. 13, 15 and 16.

Calling all Snowriders

The South Whidbey Parks and Recreation Department announces registrations are now being taken for the Snowrider program.

The adult program is on Tuesdays and the youth half of the program is scheduled for Saturdays.

The parks department has pick ups scheduled for Coupeville and South Whidbey, plus a pick up in Everett on the Tuesday bus.

Basketball officials needed

Training of prospective and current girls basketball officials will begin Monday, Oct. 20, in Mount Vernon.

The Northwest Board of Basketball Officials is seeking members to referee high school and middle school girls basketball games for the upcoming season. The NWB provides officials for games in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan counties.

“We need young people and adults who enjoy girls basketball and want to contribute to its quality,” said Ron Van Soest, NWB president. “With so many schools in our coverage area, there are plenty of opportunities to officiate and supplement one’s income. We provide training and mentoring for all new officials.”
