Still in search of victory

OH has two more chances

Hard ground balls to the left.

It didn’t seem to matter where, or how hard the Oak Harbor fastpitch team hit the ball Tuesday afternoon, as Arlington snatched up almost everything en route to an 11-0 victory in six innings.

“I was happy with their contact, just frustrated that we couldn’t find any holes in their defense,” OHHS head coach Rayna Trahan said.

The Wildcats made contact in almost every at bat, striking out just three times. Of all the balls they put in play, however, only two got through for hits.

Arlington on the other hand, had no trouble getting hits or runs across the plate.

The Eagles generated three hits off starter Lindsay Knaus and capitalized on three Oak Harbor errors to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

It wasn’t the hits that bothered Trahan, but the consistent problem with errors.

“It’s been a common theme for most of the season,” she said. “We haven’t been able to eliminate the mental errors, which lead to physical errors.”

The Wildcats committed eight miscues for the game and were down 5-0 after two innings as the result of two more unearned scores.

Relief pitcher Lindsey Bear came in during the top of the third and kept the Arlington bats at bay for the next three innings, allowing just one unearned run.

“I believe that Lindsey Bear is our more consistent pitcher and has been all season,” Trahan said. “She throws strikes and maintains her composure on the mound no matter what is going on behind her.”

The Eagles finally found a groove off of Bear in the sixth, scoring four earned runs and one unearned.

Knaus and Becca Wheeler had the two hits for Oak Harbor.
