In spite of “best team effort to date,” according to coach Mike Thornton, the Coupeville High School soccer team dropped a 5-0 match at Lakewood Saturday, Oct. 1.

Thornton said, “The game should have been a little closer than the score line shows.”

The Wolves gave up goals in the first half on a poor clear and a questionable penalty kick.

Thornton said, “The effort was good and the girls felt good about how they had played in the first half. The second half we gave up three goals and the game got a little physical, but the Wolves didn’t back down.”

Offensively, Coupeville had “a few good chances,” Thornton said, but “just couldn’t get it in.”

Thornton said, “By far the best team effort to date, that includes the freshmen to the seniors. If they continue this path things could be a little different as we start our second go around this week.”

The Wolves (0-7, 1-7) begin their second time through the league schedule when they host Archbishop Murphy (6-0, 8-0) Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m.
