Swimmers put in strong performances | NWAC

The North Whidbey Aquatics Club sent seven swimmers to the second annual Mark Prothero Invitational in Federal Way last weekend, and all put in solid performances.

The North Whidbey Aquatics Club sent seven swimmers to the second annual Mark Prothero Invitational in Federal Way last weekend, and all put in solid performances.

Alana Miller earned NWAC Swimmer of the Meet honors by placing third in the girls 10-and-under 50-meter backstroke and posting a new age-group qualifying time in the 100 butterfly (1:33.65).

Jillian Pape recorded NWAC’s highest place in a finals event, finishing ninth in the women’s open 200 butterfly (2:43.24).

Lindsay Brown was fifth in the 200 individual medley (3:18.76) and clocked an age-group cut in the 100 breaststroke (1:44.42).

Patty Miessner placed 13th in the finals of the girls 13/14 200 fly.

Ashleigh Merrill, 12, swam the 1,500 freestyle in 20:26.02, putting her on the Pacific Northwest Swim  top-20 list.

Kiersten Tyson, 9, swam to sixth in the 100 free (1:28.54).

Lola Chargualaf, 9; Grace Chargualaf, 12;  and Jacob Swanson,10, rounded out the NWAC efforts by recording multiple personal bests, according to coach Richard Taylor.

Lola Chargualaf swam 1:42.77 in the 100 fly, a very fast time for her age group and nearly reaching an age-group qualifying time, Taylor said.

NWAC competes in the Seattle Age Group Open next weekend at Colman Pool.
