The Burlington-Edison High School volleyball team continued what it accomplished all last season — win — by blanking visiting Oak Harbor 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the season opener.

The Tigers, coached by Oak Harbor graduate Tawnya Brewer, ran up a 31-0-2 record en route to winning the 2A state title last year and were ranked sixth in this fall’s preseason state poll.

Oak Harbor coach Kerri Molitor, also an OHHS grad, said, “We struggled with our serve receive. We were a little more consistent than at the jamboree, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

Burlington-Edison won 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.

The Wildcats were led by Roshel Muzzall with eight kills and seven digs, and Kayleigh Harper with seven kills, two aces and seven digs.

Taylor Nienhuis added 22 assists.

Oak Harbor opens at home with a nonleague match with Mount Vernon (0-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6.
