Burlington-Edison scored six unearned runs with two outs in the first inning to set the tone for a 16-8 win over the host Oak Harbor High School softball team Saturday, March 29.

After the messy opening inning, the Wildcats “could never really climb back into the game,” said coach Todd Showalter.

The Oak Harbor defense continued to struggle as Wildcat pitcher, Kat Martinez, surrendered only four earned runs in a complete game effort.

Natalie Fiallos, playing center field, did produce a defensive gem for Oak Harbor, Showalter said, when she made a nice running catch to end an inning and rob the Tigers (1-4) of an extra-base hit and more runs.

Alexa Findley rapped two hits for Oak Harbor, while Kelly Findley, Tricia Sarns and Martinez added one each.

Oak Harbor (1-4) begins conference play at 4 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Marysville Getchell (1-3).
