Completing a three-game sweep of Oak Harbor, the visiting Marysville-Pilchuck High School baseball team defeated the Wildcats 8-1 Friday, March 29.

The first-place Tomahawks upped their Wesco North to 4-1 (5-1, overall) and Oak Harbor fell to 1-4 (2-6).

Four of the first five M-P batters in the game slugged base hits, pushing home two runs. That would be all the Tommies would need for the win.

Oak Harbor scored its lone run in the bottom of the first on a double steal. Grant Schroeder singled and was forced at second on a fielder’s choice by Anthony Stewart. Jack Richter singled to put runners at a the corners. Richter got into a run down between first and second, enabling Stewart to swipe home.

The Wildcats would manage only three more hits in the game, another single by Schroeder and two by Brent Mertins.

Marysville-Pilchuck continued to thump the ball, finishing with 11 hits. The Tomahawks steadily pulled away, scoring two runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings.

Four of the Marysville runs were unearned as Oak Harbor committed five errors and tossed two wild pitches.

Oak Harbor coach Tyson VanDam said, “We made too many errors. We put ourselves into bad positions, and we didn’t get any breaks.”

He added, “That’s not to discredit them; they are a good team. They will be at the top of the district.”

The Wildcat next series is with Marysville Getchell (1-4, 2-4). The Chargers come to Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, and Friday, April 5. Wednesday the Wildcats go to Getchell.
