When Coupeville hosts its first home track meet in two years with King’s Thursday, April 14, at 4 p.m., the event will feature some of the state’s top 1A talent.

Coupeville’s Tyler King and Hunter Hammer and King’s Curtis Clauson and Karlie Storkson headline a meet full of stars.

King currently holds the state’s best 1A times in the 800 (1:57.4) and 1,600 (4:15.7) and the third-best in the 3,200 (10:01.7). He is the defending state champion in the 1,600 and 3,200 and placed second in the 800.

He will receive a challenge for King’s Hap Emmons who holds the second-best time in the 800 (2:01.65) and the seventh-best in the 1,600 (4:40.56). He placed third in both events at state last spring.

Clauson is the national leader in the javelin (206-05) and also has state-best 1A marks in the 300 hurdles (40.47) and long jump (21-08), second-best in the 110 hurdles (15.57) and fifth-best in the triple jump (41-08.5). Last year he won state titles in the javelin, long jump, triple jump and 300 hurdles.

Hammer, the Coupeville school record holder in the shot put and discus, has the fifth best mark in the shot (50-06.5) and seven-best in the discus (145-08).

King’s Parker Browning is fourth in the discus (152-02).

King’s also has the third- and seventh-best javelin marks (Slater Hunt, 184-02; Nathan Talbot, 163-06) and Hunt is eighth in the high jump (5-10).

The Knights have the best time in the 4×400 relay (3:37.54), and Coupeville has the ninth (3:46.03, Mitch Pelroy, Chase Bates, Will Hoskins and King).

On the girls side, Storkson owns the best mark in the 400 (61.07) and the third-best in the 200 (26.88) and 100 (13.24).

King’s has the top relay marks in the 4×200 (1:51.55) and 4×400 (4:13.71). Its 4×100 time is seventh (53.29).

Stephanie Rice of King’s was third in the state 800 last year and has the ninth-best time this year (2:31.92).

Coupeville’s Kyra Ilyankoff is seventh in the javelin (108-10) and ninth in the shot put (33-03).
